How one too many no’s led to a big yes: Learn how this top agent has used setbacks to build her career and her own brand.

Kathleen Matinlassi has learnt a lot about keeping promises. From her life before real estate in 5-star Hotels, supporting leading CEOs, banking, and property development through to her 5 year career as an agent, she knows the importance of caring about others and delivering what you say you will do.

So, when a promise of a partnership in her last office fell through, she knew the only way to deliver on her values was to start her own agency, along with daughter, Sydney, and Kathleen Matinlassi and Co was born in partnership with UrbanX.

“After selling over 250 properties over 5 years and working 7 days a week, I feel I can spread my wings more with creativity, community involvement, and business growth of my own ethics and beliefs. My efforts can therefore reflect more directly for my time and passion for what I do.” She adds, “Our unique aspect is being a Mother – Daughter Agent Team! Sydney has completed her Business Degree and has been working with me for over 3 years. She is gifted with more than the average amount of experience for her age and first-hand understanding of the meaning behind each sale with families.”

When asked about what drives her moving forward, Kathleen says, “To know that my efforts and my time are truly for my client families and for my family. Everyone knows how much I care, and doing it for myself now brings a new meaning and purpose. And to make all great ideas come to life with no ‘NO’s, you can’t’ because of major Brand limitations. Watch me grow!”

Kathleen’s transition into real estate began 7 years ago, after successfully navigating the sale of personal homes privately. She explains, “I started work in my first agency in 2017 to set up admin and marketing. After one year, I was ready to go into sales but this was denied to me. Since then, I have sold over 250 properties, achieved top 10 in over 300 agent sales, plus become a 4-year award winner for client reviews.”

What does she pinpoint as key to her success?

“Customer satisfaction was always my drive and I’ve seen rich rewards for the extra efforts I always applied. My husband and I have invested in multiple properties so I know what it’s like to fall in love and miss out, and how exciting it is to secure a home that the kids will love. With this insight, it is my goal to always provide a special and rewarding sale for every client. The sale experience and price I achieve for them are giving them the next step in their life, so I couldn’t be more grateful for their trust in me.”

However, Kathleen acknowledges the challenges of breaking through preconceived notions about real estate agents. “Letting people know they can trust me is crucial. It’s important to let them know I’m different and really care. It’s not just a numbers game; it’s so much more.”

While somewhat unplanned, setting up her agency has been remarkably smooth, thanks to the efficiency and professional guidance from the UrbanX team, who Kathleen says was a natural fit.
