Nicholas McCluskey’s journey into real estate wasn’t a typical one—it was born from a genuine love for property and a desire to create something unique. Now, with the launch of Sellr Group, he’s taking that passion to new heights. Backed by UrbanX, Nicholas is combining his hands-on experience with a fresh, flexible approach to transform the way real estate works in Brisbane’s inner-city market.

 

Nicholas’s real estate career began with his own property ventures. “I’ve always had an interest in property,” Nicholas recalls. “Whilst working on my own developments, and as I went through the process, I became increasingly drawn to the sales side. I got to know a few agents, saw how fast-paced and rewarding it could be, and realised it was a perfect fit for me. In real estate, your success is in your hands, and I thrive on that challenge.”

 

For Nicholas, the variety of the job is a major source of motivation. “What excites me is that no two days are ever the same. Every client, every property, every situation is different. It keeps me engaged and constantly thinking ahead. Real estate is fast, it’s unpredictable, and it demands that I stay on my toes. That’s what I love about it—it’s never boring, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

 

However, Nicholas acknowledges the challenges of maintaining a work-life balance. “It’s a 24/7 job—there are no days off. When the phone rings, you must answer, whether it’s a quiet Sunday afternoon or date night with my wife. To be successful and have a life outside of work, your loved ones need to be very understanding.”

 

The decision to launch Sellr Group was driven by Nicholas’s desire for greater flexibility and the freedom to build something lasting. “For me, starting Sellr Group wasn’t just about running my own agency—it was about having the freedom to market myself and my clients’ properties in a way that I believe works best. I want to build something that, years from now, I can look back on and be genuinely proud of. That idea of leaving a legacy has always been a big motivator for me.”

 

Nicholas recognised that entrusting his future to others no longer aligned with his goals, leading him to establish Sellr Group. Reflecting on his decision to branch out, Nicholas shared his greatest frustration under the traditional agency model: “Desiring more. It’s all too common in our industry to be promised the world only to end up with little to nothing. The thought of my future depending on someone else was unsettling, especially with the frequent changes to plans and agreements. I realised that one way to regain control was to take charge of my own path—making commitments to myself that I wouldn’t break. This way, I can dedicate more time to my clients—past, present, and future”.

 

 

When asked about fears, Nicholas’s answer is refreshingly bold. “No fears. If I decide to do something I back myself 100%. In my eyes, if you have a backup plan you will most likely use it”.

This confidence is mirrored in Sellr Group’s branding. “I’m young, but I’ve built, renovated, and developed properties across Brisbane. That gives me a unique perspective, allowing me to advise clients with real-world experience—something I find most newer agents don’t have.”

 

The partnership with UrbanX also meant that Nicholas could focus his energy on building relationships with clients, knowing that all operational aspects—such as administration and marketing—were being expertly handled. Nicholas’s advice to other agents considering branching out is clear, “If you’re thinking about it, do it. The thought won’t go away. Don’t wait for the right time—it will never come. The right time is when you look back in 12 months and are thankful you took that next step.”
